Context: Why Research?

Family medicine research is the basis on which family medicine is built. It produces the evidence that supports our clinical practice and helps promote the value of family medicine as a cornerstone of the Canadian health care system. We produce, synthesize, and transfer the results of our research—the evidence—into best practice approaches to patient care. -- The College of Family Physicians of Canada

Context: Who are we?

We are family physicians who are interested in improving primary care. We feel that local research is an important way to do that, and we would like to support research and quality improvement in our area.

As an organization, we are in the Shuswap North Okanagan Division of Family Practice. The Shuswap North Okanagan Division of Family Practice is a community-based group of family physicians working together – and with health authorities and community partners – to achieve common goals. Local research is just one of those efforts.

Dr. Poulin is a family physician in Vernon with interests in computing and research. He has a BSc in Molecular Genetics and a MSc in Computing Science prior to his medical degree.
